Transfer Summer Transition
Orientation Begins Now!
We consider your orientation an immersive experience that begins before you arrive to campus. As you prepare to join the Tulane Community, we have planned a series of intentional steps for you to complete and review prior to your arrival on campus. These steps will allow you to have a smooth transition into a Tulanian!
Transfer Student Checklist
To support your transition to campus, we have created a "TU Do" list of important tasks to complete throughout the summer. We highly encourage you to review the checklist at the start of each month for a reminder of approaching action items and deadlines.
- Review the Transfer Student advising page.
- Complete the Transfer Pre-Advising Checklist.
- Completing the transfer pre-advising checklist will allow you to schedule your new student advising session. To best guide you in course selection for the fall, we need to collect information from you and provide information to consider. Complete the pre-advising checklist in Transfer Student Module 2 and then read on to get more information about planning your first semester.
- Register for your Academic Advising Appointment.
- Class scheduling takes place during the summer. Be on the lookout for an email from College Advising with instructions on how to schedule your advising appointment. More information about the timeline and sign-up process can be found in Transfer Student Module 2.
- May 8: Complete the Housing Application.
- The deadline to complete the housing application and the optional Residential Learning Community (RLC) application on the Housing Portal is May 8. You will be notified of your housing assignment via your Tulane email by mid-July. Questions? Contact Housing and Residence Life.
- Complete the Application for Academic and Housing Accommodations.
- Request Accommodations through the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility and submit any necessary documentation. Your provider may use the Provider Form. Questions? Contact the Goldman Center.
- Review Technology Options
- Check with the Technology Connection campus store for back-to-school computer specials with promotions from Apple ® and Microsoft Surface products. Tech Connect also has a loaner and repair program for students..
- June 3-18: Request a Roommate through the Housing Portal.
- June 2: Review or change your Dining Plan.
- The Dining Plan Portral opens June 2. The last day to change your dining plan without being charged a fee is August 21. After the deadline, you can make changes until August 28, but with change fees added.
- June 20: Upload your Splash Card/Tulane ID photo.
- Uploading your photo in time will ensure you receive your Splash Card in your packet when you arrive on campus for move-in.
- Mid-June: Review Shipping Information.
- Check your email for information on how to ship items to Tulane for in-room delivery during move-in. New students and families will also receive this information via mail. We strongly recommend using the shipping portal. All residential students are assigned a campus mail code to manage mail, which is included in the mail packet. Please save your mail code for future reference.
- Review the Newcomb-Tulane College Undergrad Book Bundle.
- Tulane University provides a convenient course materials ordering model that gives Newcomb-Tulane College undergraduate students access to all textbooks and course materials on the first day of class.
- Order all AP/IB credits to be sent to Tulane.
- Did you take AP or IB courses in High School? Learn how Tulane accepts those credits. Make sure you send Tulane your AP scores and IB transcripts.
- Mid-July: Newcomb-Tulane College Undergrad Book Bundle scholarship closes.
- Mid-July: Select how to receive books for the NTC Undergrad Book Bundle.
- Eligible Newcomb-Tulane College students will receive an email from the Tulane bookstore about the NTC Undergrad Bundle. Students should respond to this email immediately and select pickup or delivery so that their course materials and books will be ready on the first day of classes. Please remember the NTC Undergrad Bundle includes digital materials and is not a-la-carte.
- Mid-July: Required Wellness Courses Available
- All new students are required to complete a series of online health promotion courses. The courses will open in mid-July, and students are asked to complete these courses by August 17. These courses are designed to help you make informed decisions about your health, safety, and well-being as a Tulane student. They also introduce shared expectations that support a safe and healthy campus community.
- July 15: Immunization Compliance Deadline
- This is the deadline to submit your completed Tulane immunization compliance form and/or vaccine records via the Patient Portal. Tulane must have evidence of a student’s compliance with the state guidelines for immunizations. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a registration hold being placed on your student account, which will bar you from dropping or adding classes in the Fall semester and/or enrolling for Spring semester classes.
- Prepare Mental Health Support
- If you have ongoing mental health needs or concerns, connect with a community therapist or psychiatrist before arriving in New Orleans. Contact the CAPS Care Coordinator if you need assistance connecting with a local provider.
- Start Preparing for Move-In.
- Moving onto campus is such an exciting moment, but it can be overwhelming. Make sure to complete the following tasks to help make your move-in smooth!
