Below is a brief description of each Beyond the Bubble trip offered for Fall 2023. You are welcome to sign up for one or all four experiences! First-Year Experience reserves the right to place students in programs based on interest, preference, and availability.

Music Box Village: Halloween Art Market

Saturday, October 28th, 2023 | 11:30am-3:30pm

Experience the spirit of fall in the iconic Music Box Village, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and whimsical village of artist-made interactive “musical houses” located in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans! From artist residencies and performances to exploration and education, the site pushes boundaries and is inspired by the music, culture, and people of our city. The market will feature local vendors with food, vintage clothes, and more!

Culture Aid NOLA

Wednesday, November 8th, 2023 | 2:15pm-8:30pm

Explore serving all members of the New Orleans community with dignity, grace, and hospitality. Culture Aid NOLA is a 501(c)3 non-profit that provides free groceries to our families, friends, and neighbors across the city at pop-up distribution sites; no identification, no proof of income, and no questions are asked in the process. Join fellow Tulanians in an afternoon of food distribution and fellowship!

New Orleans Museum of Art

Discover a world class collection as you explore the galleries and sculpture garden of the city's oldest fine arts institution, New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). Since 1911, the museum has acted as one of the top art museums in the South. This trip features a guided tour of the current exhibit Fashioning America: Grit to Glamour, which presents American fashion as a powerful emblem of global visual culture and uplifts the voices of Indigenous, Black, immigrant, and women designers from American fashion history. As you continue your own story at Tulane and in New Orleans, the hearts of our city beat with centuries of stories that now join together with your own. Let Milton Carr, a 7th generation Creole storyteller, share with you the stories, the celebrations, and the tribulations of generations of New Orleanians through a private walking tour of the French Quarter and the Creole Faubourg Tremé. Enjoy your tour with complimentary Café du Monde and exploring shops in the surrounding area!
