New Student Checklist

Welcome, Class of 2028! In preparation for your arrival, we have created a checklist of important tasks to complete throughout the summer. We highly encourage you to review the checklist at the start of each month for a reminder of approaching action items and deadlines.

May 2024

___ Complete the New Student Module for May: Make Way for Exploration. The New Student Modules can be found on your Canvas dashboard. Sign in using your Tulane email and password.

___ May 8: Priority deadline to complete the optional Residential Learning Community application – found on the Housing Portal.

___ May 8: Priority deadline extended for housing accommodations requests. Learn more at Accommodated Housing at Tulane. The accommodations process includes a welcome meeting and committee review. Requests submitted outside of the guidelines provided or applications without documentation may experience a delay in processing. Questions? Contact Goldman Center

___ May 22: Deadline to complete the housing application on the Housing Portal. You will be notified of your housing assignment via your Tulane email by mid-July. Questions? Contact Housing and Residence Life.

___ Submit your Student Evacuation Plan when you complete your housing application so you are prepared in the event of a weather emergency.

___ Complete the application for academic and housing accommodations. Request Accommodations through the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility and submit any necessary documentation. Your provider may use the Provider Form. Questions? Contact the Goldman Center.

June 2024

___ Complete the New Student Module for June: Make Way for Belonging. The New Student Modules can be found on your Canvas dashboard. Sign in using your Tulane email and password.

___ Prepare for your College Advising Appointment (HINT: See your May New Student Module!).

___ June 4-19: Request a roommate through the Housing Portal.

___ June 3: The dining plan portal opens. Please review or change your dining plan. The last day to change your dining plan without being charged an additional fee is August 23. For more information, visit dining.tulane.edu.

___ June 17: NTC Undergrad Bundle scholarship application opens.

___ June 20: Eligible Newcomb-Tulane College students will receive an email from the Tulane bookstore about the NTC Undergrad Bundle. Students should respond to this email immediately and select pickup or delivery so that their course materials and books will be ready on the first day of classes. Please remember the NTC Undergrad Bundle includes digital materials and is not a-la-carte.

___  June 20: Health Insurance Action Process Begins - After you enroll in classes, please monitor your Tulane email for health insurance requirements and details. You must either enroll in the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP) or complete the waiver process to opt out of T-SHIP before you arrive to campus or by the posted deadline, whichever is earliest. Newly enrolled international students are required to enroll in T-SHIP.

___ June 24: Check your email for information on how to ship items to Tulane. We strongly recommend using the 2-Ship portal to make your move-in experience easier and more efficient. New students will also have a packet mailed to their home address. For more information, visit mailservices.tulane.edu. FYI: All residential students are assigned a campus mail code. Please save your mail code for future reference.

___ June 28: You will receive your Splash Card in your check-in packet when you arrive on campus for move in. Upload your photo as soon as possible to ensure you receive your Splash Card during move-in.

___ Don't forget to submit your application for academic accommodations and learn more about transitioning from high school to college. Once we receive your application and documentation, we will contact you to schedule your welcome meeting. Questions? Contact Goldman Center.

July 2024

___ Complete the New Student Module for July: Make Way for Community. The New Student Modules can be found on your Canvas dashboard. Sign in using your Tulane email and password.

___ July 1: Deadline to submit your final high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

___ July 2: Deadline to upload your bio and photo for the 2024 New Student Book.

___ July 15: Immunization Compliance Deadline - This is the deadline to submit your completed Tulane immunization compliance form and/or vaccine records via the Patient Portal. Tulane must have evidence of a student’s compliance with the state guidelines for immunizations. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a registration hold being placed on your student account, which will bar you from dropping or adding classes in the Fall semester and/or enrolling for Spring semester classes.

___ Mid-July: Required Wellness Courses AvailableCheck your Tulane email for an email from Campus Health with instructions on completing five required online wellness courses about alcohol, sexual violence prevention, mental wellbeing, sexual health and sexual literacy. You have until August 19 to finish these online courses.

___ Review your Move-In guide once published prior to moving on to campus.

___ Have you scheduled your Goldman Welcome Meeting? If you have submitted your application and documentation but haven't scheduled your welcome meeting, now is the time before classes start in August. Goldman will not conduct welcome meetings from August 11th through August 23rd. Welcome meeting scheduling will resume August 26th.

August 2024

___ Complete the New Student Module for August: Make Way for Hullabaloo Hello. The New Student Modules can be found on your Canvas dashboard. Sign in using your Tulane email and password.

___ August 1: Deadline to submit Advance Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge A-Level scores.

___ August 15: Fall Tuition Bill Due. Tulane Accounts Receivable bills are paid through Gibson Online on the Billing tab. View your bill beginning July 15. Explore Financial Aid checklists and resources.

___ August 15: Health Insurance Action Deadline - This is the deadline to either enroll in or opt out of the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP). If you do not take action by this date, you will be automatically enrolled in T-SHIP, and the non-refundable premium will be charged to your account. No action is required for newly enrolled international students, as you will be automatically enrolled in T-SHIP.

___ August 19: Completion Deadline for Required Wellness Courses Before the first day of classes, August 19, you will need to have completed the five required online wellness courses that were introduced in July.

___ August 23: The last day to change your dining plan without being charged an additional fee is August 23. After the deadline, you can make changes until August 30, but with change fees added.

___ Watch for outreach and introductions from the First Year Advising Team in College Advising.

___ Confirm your attendance for fall on Gibson. This mandatory step tells us you are on campus. You can still change your schedule after confirming attendance. Instructions on how to do this are here.

___ Make plans to attend the Accessibility Orientation at the Goldman Center with your family during each day of Move-In from 1pm - 4pm. 

___ Check your Tulane email regularly.

Lagniappe

In New Orleans, the word "lagniappe" means something extra. Below are some extra tasks to explore prior to your arrival.

___ Enter your chosen name and pronouns through Gibson Online.

___ Review the Housing and Residence Life Community Living Standards.

___ Review the Code of Student Conduct.

___ Review the NTC Honor Code, otherwise known as the Code of Academic Conduct, to understand academic expectations prior to the first day of classes.

___ If you have ongoing mental health needs or concerns, connect with a community therapist or psychiatrist before arriving in New Orleans. Contact the Counseling Center Care Coordinator if you need assistance connecting with a local provider.

___ Transfer your prescriptions to our on-campus Pharmacy.

___ Check with the Technology Connection campus store for back-to-school computer specials. Tech Connect also has a loaner and repair program for students.

___ Looking for a job on campus? All student employment opportunities are posted on Handshake. We also hold a Student Job Fair in the first week of classes. Remember to bring original documents (passport, SS card, or Birth Certificate) with you to campus to complete your I-9. You won’t be able to start working without one. Copies cannot be accepted. Visit Student Employment’s website for more information.

___ Become familiar with the shuttles and transportation options at Tulane. Options include buses between campuses and on-demand transportation to and from designated areas.

For International Students

___ Complete OISS Online Orientation! All new international students must complete the OISS Online Orientation before arrival in the United States. The course is designed to help international students learn about immigration regulations, learn tips for adjusting to life in the United States, and more! ___ Complete iGlobal Check-in Upon Arrival! All new international students must complete the online check-in with OISS upon arrival in the United States. Failure to check in can result in the termination of your student status. You can read about the requirements for check-in here.
